If you died suddenly today, would you end up in Heaven, Hell or Purgatory? (cf: http://www.divinemercysharjah.org/dm/heaven_hell_purgatory.asp ) I don’t know if you have ever wrestled with that crucially important question, but I have just recently!
You see, I have had two very sobering brushes with the ‘Angel of Death’ in the last three weeks. The first one occurred in early December, 2012, as I was crossing at a busy intersection, here in Ottawa, at a pedestrian crosswalk, when all of a sudden, I saw a car coming at breakneck speed, swerving left and right and coming straight for me. I froze in my tracks, then just before the vehicle would have run me over, it swerved away, missing me by a few feet! I was shook up, to say the least. Afterwards I was thanking God and my Guardian Angel. I was so happy to be alive.
My second brush with the Angel of Death was on the evening of January 1st, 2013, after my hour of prayer at the Adoration Chapel. I boarded the OC Transpo bus as usual. I was on my way to my ‘seniors’ seat, about 12 feet away from the bus driver, with the bus in motion. All of a sudden, the driver jammed on the brakes to the extreme, which made me go flying backwards in the air landing on my back with my head only inches away from the metal dashboard and the coin/ticket receptor. Had I hit these metal parts my skull was sure to have been crushed. I would have died instantly.
On the floor, stunned and angry, I chastised the bus driver for jamming on the brakes, only to discover that she was forced to do so because, out of nowhere a vehicle had cut her off. She had braked to avoid a fatal accident.
These two near death experiences, within three weeks of each other and within three weeks of the founding of my website “striveforheavennow.ca “ have had the effect of making the words “strive for heaven now! “ very real and meaningful to me. God was speaking to me very clearly in these sobering events.
You see, another thing I have just done in the last few weeks is finished reading an excellent book titled: “Get Us Out Of Here.” By Nicky Eltz, (cf: http://getusoutofhere.com/ who interviews Maria Simma, a great mystic, who’s life was dedicated to praying for and helping souls in Purgatory. The book is a ‘must read’. If you don’t believe in Purgatory now, you will after you read the book.
The Poor Souls in Purgatory suffer much and need our prayers and help to ‘get them out of there’ into Heaven! What most people do not know is that the Poor Souls can do a lot to help us also. If we pray for them, in their gratefulness, they will pray for us. Those of us who are pro-lifers can ask them for their prayer support in our battles against ‘the Culture of Death and abortion’. If there is anybody who should understand the plight of the unborn babies, in this present day worldwide genocide against the unborn babies, it is the Poor Souls.
They can imagine the unborn babies screaming out…
“Get us out of here ALIVE!”
We all need the help of prayer warriors. The unborn babies need help from death and destruction within the womb by abortion, and each of us ‘adults’ need help in “striving for Heaven…Now!”
This is where I strongly encourage the reader to have a great devotion in praying for Poor Souls in Purgatory (cf: http://www.catholictreasury.info/books/treatise_on_purgatory/ ). In their gratefulness they can powerfully intercede for us as we fight the ‘Culture of Death’ and we strive to become holy, to become saints before we die. (cf: “Because it is written: You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16 )
As I finish I ask you the same personal question that I was asked when I was 28 years old: “Do you know Jesus Christ?”. This question led to my “personal relationship” with Jesus Christ in January of 1975. Ever since then, it has been a wonderful journey of discovering the ‘mercy and love’ of God the Father, through His Son Jesus Christ, through the manifestations of the Holy Spirit of God, and encountering and learning about Mary, the Mother of God, Saint Joseph, the Angels, and the Saints AND the Poor Souls in Purgatory!
They can all help us so much as we live out this so brief journey on planet earth. My Mom said one day, with so much wisdom:
“Time is precious,
It gives us time to love,
Time to have God’s preciousness.”
(Leona Bruneau-Deschenes, Dec 26, 2005.)
I remind you to read the book “Get Us Out Of Here!” and also I invite you to go to the Home Page of my website http://striveforheavennow.ca/ and read the poem “Time Is Precious.”
